Kavadi Illustrations (2020)
A series of illustrations commissioned by Tusitala as part of their collaboration with Esplanade and partners National Arts Council (NAC) for the project ‘little red dot (2020)’, which adapts translated Singaporean short stories into interactive web experiences. I created the illustrations for the short story ‘Kavadi’, the english translation of the original Tamil story by Latha. The digital adaptation can be viewed here:

The five spot illustrations, each depicting a different type of Kavadi.
The illustrations were stylised to fit the client’s vision and story, sharp with a hint of the feminine.
Additional illustrations of stylised peacock feather variations for use as glyphs on the website.
Process sketches for the illustrations, shown to the client. Research and discussion were done to ensure sensitivity.
