Duolingo Chirp (2018)
A collaborative final-year poly project with Amirah Kamis (UX/UI Designer) and me (Character Designer/Illustrator). Duolingo Chirp is an imagined prototype of a kids version of the app Duolingo, with the aim to encourage language learning amongst children in a fun and interactive way.
‘Chirp’ takes place in a colourful world of birds (expanding upon Duolingo’s mascot character, Duo the owl) and features
activities to help with language learning in a fun way such as Speaking, Make A Sentence, Flashcards and Story Time, each teaching different skills. ‘Chirp’ also offers incentives to progress with features such as a skill tree system and a shop where the player can buy power-ups and clothes with ingame currency earned through completing lessons for their player avatar.

Each of the characters represent certain values that are important to have as a player.

Concept art of the characters. Each character has a unique shape language that ties into their personality and purpose. Their species was also carefully chosen, with each one having symbolic ties to their represented values, and there needed to be seven guides to fit the rainbow theme.
